Being Friendly (Anyone)

Lucy sat alone at a table in the library, reading a book she was thinking about taking out. She usually spent time to herself, really she was used to it. But, now that she was at college, all she could think about was everyone telling her that she should be more open to meeting new people. Normally she was just forget it, but, she didn't want to be known as an outcast. Even if not that many people liked her, she at least wanted to be known. She looked around at the other tables, which were filled with people, and sighed.

She looked at someone who seemed to just be walking around aimlessly carrying books, and she figured this wouldn't kill her...hopefully. "Um...you can sit down here, if you want, I mean. I won't care." She told them.

Ariana walked around the library looking for books that she could read to occupy her time. She just walked around, looking for things she might find interesting. When Ariana heard someone speak, she turned to look at her. She smiled, why not make a friend?

"Sure, thanks." Ariana said as she sat down next to the girl.

"Yeah, no problem." Lucy said, giving a bit of a smile. The girl seemed nice, so Lucy figured this could go well. "I'm Lucy, by the way."

"Ariana." She smiled, "Nice to meet you."

"Yeah, same here." She said. "So..first year here?"

"Yep, first of many." She said

"Me too." Lucy said. "And hopefully these many years don't drag on."

"I know. I figure it'll be worth it, though, no matter how long it takes."

She shrugged. "I guess."

"Not looking forward to going through school?" Ariana asked

"I just hope it's done sooner rather than later."

"Yeah, I'm sure everyone does."

"I just hate being restricted and being told what to do and when to do it."

"Me too, I mean, sometimes it has to be done, but sometimes it gets out of hand."

"But I guess every kid has to go through it..." Lucy trailed off. "At least that's what mommy dearest keeps trying to drill in my head."

"Yeah, that's life for ya." She said, "Oh the joys of parents."
